Dr. Charles W Smith – Founder and Medical Director

bio-smithCharles W. Smith, M.D., is the Founder, Chairman, and Medical Director of eDocAmerica, and is a board certified family physician with over 35 years of experience in practice.

He is the director of the Primary Care Service Line at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and is professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine where he has been serving since 1989. In his role at UAMS, he also serves as the medical director for the service line, which consists of all of the UAMS clinics in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Geriatrics as well as the UAMS Neighborhood Clinics. He is a member of the LLC Management Team, a Member of the Quality Management Committee, and a Member of the Editorial Review Team.

Dr. Val Jones – Health Tip Content Editor

Val Jones, M.D., is a rehabilitation medicine specialist licensed to practice in 10 states (NY, CA, FL, GA, WA, VA, SD, ID, NE, and AR). She is also the CEO of Better Health, LLC, a medical blogging network. Most recently she was the Senior Medical Director of Revolution Health, a consumer health portal with over 120 million page views per month in its network. Prior to her work with Revolution Health, Dr. Jones served as the founding editor of Clinical Nutrition & Obesity, a peer-reviewed e-section of the online Medscape Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Jones was born in Greenwich, Conn., and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a master’s degree at Dallas Theological Seminary in Texas. She also participated in several research projects in biomedical imaging and vaccine research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

She graduated from medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City in 2001 and was a regular contributor to the medical student section of the Journal of the American Medical Association. She received a scholarship to conduct research in the department of plastic surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, as well as a summer research fellowship in pediatric surgery at the University of Southern California, which was funded by the National Institutes of Health. She also completed research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City in its Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Jones was the principal investigator of several clinical trials relating to sleep, diabetes and metabolism, and she won first place in the Peter Cyrus Rizzo III research competition. She has worked part-time as a food critic in New York City, a medical cartoonist and Chief Resident of Rehabilitation Medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan.

Dr. Jones is the author of the popular blog, “Get Better,” which won The Best New Medical Blog award in 2007. She was also an editor of the Science Based Medicine blog and a contributor to The Health Care Blog. She was inducted as a member of the National Press Club in Washington, DC in July, 2008.

Dr. Jones has been quoted by various major media outlets, including USA Today, The Wall Street Journal,, and the LA Times. She has been a guest on over 40 different radio shows, and has produced many popular podcasts and videos. She was a regular contributor to ABC News Channel 8 in Washington, DC, volunteers with the Red Cross, and provides telemedicine coverage at DocTalker Family Medicine, a direct primary care practice in Vienna, Virginia. Dr. Jones currently resides in Spokane, WA where she was the Medical Director of Admissions for Saint Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute.

Dr. Jose E Rodriguez – Assistant Medical Director

joseDr. Rodriguez is a board certified Family Physician and associate professor of Family Medicine and Rural Health. He is also co-director of the Center for Underrepresented Minorities in Academic Medicine at the Florida State University College of Medicine. His main areas of interest are Minority (especially Latino) health and preparation of the next generation of physicians to care for them.

Robbie Linn – President and CEO

robbieCharles R. Linn is President of eDocAmerica and MD Online, LLC. Linn leads the company’s development of web-based physician/patient communications services and is responsible for all aspects of eDocAmerica’s operations. Linn has more than 40 years of management experience in fast-paced, team-oriented organizations, including those in the health care industry. Prior to eDocAmerica, he was vice president of project management and operations for USOrthopedics, Inc., a surgical facility development and management company. Before that, he was chief operating officer of OmniMedix, an orthopedic distributorship, and was responsible for sales growth from $8 million to $20 million in three years. Linn is also a 20-year Air Force veteran, having served as a lieutenant colonel, command pilot and Pentagon operations officer. He has a B.F.A. in advertising design from Louisiana Tech University and an M.B.A. from the University of Northern Colorado. He is a member of the LLC Management Team, a Member of the Quality Management Committee, and a Member of the Editorial Review Team.

Michael B Miller – CFO/COO

mickeyMichael B. Miller has more than 30 years experience as a results-oriented business executive, lecturer, and consultant. He has enhanced the performance of enterprises in the information technology services, professional services, financial, and sports/entertainment industries by designing effective business models and implementing development, marketing, and communications strategies. Miller has served as President of his consulting firm, International Marketing Associates, for the past thirty years. He has taught as an Adjunct Professor in the disciplines of Marketing and Economics for Webster University’s MBA program for more than twenty five years. He is presently serving as: Chief Operations Officer of MD Online, LLC, dba eDocAmerica, the nation’s leading Third-party provider of physician-consumer online communications. He is a member of the LLC Management Team, and a Member of the Quality Management Committee.


The legal name of the owner of eDocAmerica and the eDocAmerica Web site is MD Online, LLC, doing business in the State of Arkansas under the name eDocAmerica. There are thirty-two (32) individual investors in this limited liability company. The founder and owner Charles W. Smith, Jr., is the majority investor with 51% ownership and the other 31 investors are all under 10%.
